from the tee box to the green. Rees Jones calls it "One of the elite

Kiawah Island Golf Resort - The Ocean Course
One of Pete Dye's most
superb designs, this course received worldwide attention when it hosted the
1991 Ryder Cup Matches and the 1997 World Cup of Golf. Golf Digest named it
"America's Toughest Resort Course" and the third best
overall resort course in the nation. The Ocean Course has 10 holes that play
directly along the beach, more than any other golf course in the Northern
Hemisphere, and covers more than two miles of oceanfront dunes. Sandy waste
areas everywhere and near-constant wind can wreck the best round, but it's
worth the pain, especially since a 2002 redesign by Dye repositioned the 18th
green against the shore, making the final hole truly memorable. Best Hole: No.
17, a 197-yard par-3 with a wide, shallow, bulkheaded
green guarded in front by a lagoon and a pair of pot bunkers on the left, plus
dunes behind the green. Kiawah Island
Kiawah Island Golf Resort - Turtle Point

design takes advantage of the island's natural contours and dune ridges. The

along backwater lagoons and finally to three spectacular holes along the Atlantic Ocean. Best Hole: No. 15, a 412-yard par-4 with the ocean
on the left and a wide fairway narrowing at the green, which is guarded by
traps right and a thicket of trees behind. Kiawah Island

The Links At Stono
Ferry
Voted 2003-2004 Charleston
Area Golf Course of the Year, this championship par 72 golf course, designed by
Ron Garl, is located along the Intracoastal Waterway in the beautiful South Carolina Lowcountry. This links-style golf
course offers both a thrill and challenge to all skill levels. The front nine
is carved through massive oaks and pines, while the back nine gives panoramic
views of the marshlands and the Intracoastal Waterway. ***Stop
by the clubhouse to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared by our executive
chef at the Stono Grill Restaurant. Historic Note:
The American Revolutionary War Battle at Stono Ferry
took place on June 20, 1779, along the Stono River. A part of the battle took place where the 12th,
13th, and 14th holes are presently located. One of the military fortifications
(redoubt) from the battle is located on the right side of the 12th fairway. The
commanding officer for the British and Hessian forces was General Maitland,
while General Moultrie led the American Patriots. The British and Hessian
forces suffered 129 casualties, while the Americans suffered 153 dead or
wounded. One of the American casualties was Hugh Jackson, the older brother of
President Andrew Jackson. He died from heat exhaustion suffered during the
battle. Many historians believe Hugh Jackson’s death contributed to the disdain
President Jackson felt toward the British. His ill feelings toward England played a big part in his presidency’s foreign policy.
